Project Description:
The USAID-funded Pakistan Reading Project (PRP), implemented by the International Rescue Committee and its partners, Creative Associates International, World Learning, and Institute of Rural Management, is working with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of education throughout Pakistan to improve the reading skills of children in grades one and two. The project aims to achieve this goal through three distinct but interrelated components that work in synergy to affect the quality of early grade education: improved classroom learning environment for reading, improved policies and systems for reading, and community based support for reading in Pakistan
Objective of the Consultancy:
The main objective of the consultancy is:
To provide technical support to, notified curriculum and textbook review committees, Sindh Textbook Board, Curriculum wing, DCAR and other relevant bodies in revising language textbooks for Grade I to V as per revised curriculum approved by the School Education and Department.
Scope of the assignment:
The scope of assignment will be limited to development of Textbooks Sindhi Languages for Grade I to V through consultative manner and its approval from concerned government authorities. The consultant will be responsible to complete the assignment in Sindh Province.
Term of References
The consultant (s) will perform following specific activities:
Review the existing textbooks Sindhi contents Grade I to V in consultation with the notified curriculum and textbook committees Sindh Textbook Board, Curriculum wing and DCAR. This review needs to be done within the framework of revised curriculum 2018, this aims to identify gaps, especially with reference to language competencies, standards, benchmark and Students learning outcomes.
- Assist notified committees in linking with language competencies, standards, benchmarks and students learning outcomes with different lesson contents of Sindhi language textbooks (Grade I-V)
- Pilot testing of some of the lesson contents of Sindhi Language Textbooks (Grade I-V) may be done subject to the approval of the STBB.
- Facilitate finalization of the developed Sindhi Language Textbooks in light of tested results with concern authorities.
- Assist the STBB, DCAR and notified Curriculum and Textbook Review Committees in developing the revised Sindhi Textbooks (Grade I-V) lesson contents.
Key Deliverables
The work expected from consultant is given below:
- Analysis of existing language textbooks of Grade I to V
- Identify skill /SLOs related to the competencies of listening, Speaking, Writing, Reading, Language Cognition etc by using available teaching learning materials
- Develop model texts/chapters of Sindhi Language textbooks Grade I-V with integration of reading standards.
- Final Sindhi Language textbooks Grade- I-V
- Demonstrate the key contents of Sindhi Language textbooks with relevant government departments like Sindh Textbook Board, Curriculum wing and DCAR.
Qualification and Experience
- Advanced degree in education, social sciences, or relevant field, preferably PhD in Education.
- Knowledge of learning to read approaches.
- Understanding of provincial/regional education systems and advanced knowledge of curriculum development process.
- Advanced knowledge of teaching of reading and reading improvement strategies for early grades.
- Experience about textbook writing.
- Minimum of 8 years working experience in education sectors, or development sector including USAID funded projects.
- Proven experience and track record of delivering the assignment as per quality standards with no delays in meeting the deadlines
- Excellent report writing skills in English
- Excellent knowledge and fluent in Sindhi
Duration/LOE:
30 working days after signing of contract agreement (duration can be staggered).
