Consultant

Position Summary:

The Temporary Technical Advisor will assist the project in development of a sustainable business model for supply of chilis and tomatoes to food processors to be identified.

 LOE: 40 working days. The position will be from June 11, 2018 – October 31, 2018

 ESSENTIAL Responsibilities:

Chili

• Study of existing procurement cycle and model for processor to identify potential activities.
• Carry out an initial study (preferably in the form of questionnaire) as part of needs assessment to be used in designing of activities.
• Recommending strategies for successful partnership with the potential processor.
• Identification of field players (farmers/growers) who can be used for supply of specific varieties to selected processor.
• Execution and monitoring of field activities to ensure required varieties and quality is produced.
• Creating successful linkages between farmers/growers and processors (direct or through an intermediary if required so).

 Tomato Paste

• In case of tomato, identification of varieties suitable for processing, cultivating trial quantities and supply to processor for testing. Once successful, creating same chain between farmer and processor as in case of Chili.

 Any other tasks as assigned.

 DELIVERABLES: 

 Upon completion of assignment period, the consultant will submit separate business models for both Chili and Tomato to be supplied to selected processor(s).

Qualification and experience:

• Advanced university degree in a related field.
•  At least 15 years of professional experience for developing strategy documents / business plans in a major food processors and supply chain.
• Good understanding of agriculture / horticulture sector of Pakistan.
•  Strong analytical and writing skills, and experience of presenting complex technical information in a comprehensible way for non-specialist readers.
• Good communication skills and fluency in English and Urdu.
• Willing to travel to Punjab & Sindh.
