CHILD SAFEGUARDING: (select only one)

Level 3:  the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The  Programme Coordinator  Newborn and Child Health will lead Kangaroo Mother care Program in two save the children selected districts Shikarpur and Khairpur. This position will be responsible to provide technical guidance and ensure quality implementation of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) program at district level.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reporting to: Senior Manager  Health

Dimensions: Save the Children works in 2 provinces of Pakistan with a current staff complement of approximately 150 staff and current expenditure of over $5 million each year.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Technically lead Kangaroo Mother Care intervention in two districts.
  • Prepare district based annual work plans and activity matrix.
  • Ensure that KMC wards/rooms are fully renovated with fully available equipment’s and supplies in selected facilities.
  • Build capacity of Skilled Birth Attendants and Health Care Providers on KMC technique in the district.
  • Provide on job coaching and supportive supervision to skilled birth attendants and health care provider at health facility level.
  • Ensure close liaison with department of health including MNCH Program and LHW Program Sindh, partners, district officials, private sector, and civil society for the smooth implementation of activities/tasks.
  • Ensure data collection and reporting tools are properly available at facility level
  • Ensure that KMC service delivery indicators are regularly maintained and collected as per program policy.
  • Maintain training database of all trainings at district level.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of targeted intervention.
  • Conduct regular supervision to ensure quality of district and facility level trainings
  • Provide support to the district LHW programs for training of LHWs and Lady Health  supervisors and streamlining LHW supervision, especially for KMC intervention. 
  • Provide technical assistance to improve the quality of the KMC  component in selected hospitals.
  • Compile and analyse data for performance monitoring and evaluation of the project and work with partners to analyze and utilize data to take corrective actions

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • MBBS,  with experience in newborn and child health interventions
  • Master’s in Public Health is a plus

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a public health at provincial and district level. Prior experience of working with INGO will be preferred
  • Demonstrated management, planning and supervisory skills
  • Excellent English writing and communication skills in maternal, newborn, and child health policy and research issues.
  • Computer literacy in word processing, and spreadsheet software packages and particularly use of Power Point

  • Strong  advocacy skills
