Teacher Trainers Required for Integrated Quality Education project Phase-II, Shangla and Kohistan Districts.
In 2014, CRS and its local partner Indus Social Welfare and Development Organization (ISWDO) launched a three-year education project for improving access and quality of primary education in five UCs of Shangla and Kohistan districts of KP Province. One component of the project focuses extensively on working with government primary teachers to improve their skills and teaching techniques through trainings, mentoring visits, and peer group work. CRS has trained 72 primary school teachers on different teaching methodologies and 37 teachers on subject based contents of English since October 1, 2014. CRS/ISWDO staff is regularly providing on job support to the teachers through mentoring visits. During these mentoring visits to the schools, CRS/ ISWDO staff observed that teachers in the targeted schools are struggling with teaching the core subjects of Math’s and Science to the students, especially to the upper grade (3-5) in the targeted schools.
Therefore, CRS/ISWDO intends to organize 6 days comprehensive training covering the two subjects (Math’s and Science) for the targeted male and female teachers separately at the same time on these core subjects in the month of January 2015, As there will be separate training for male and female teachers, therefore male and female teachers trainers will be hired for these training.
Teacher Trainer Objectives and Expected Results
Training Objectives
(1) The selected teacher trainer will be responsible for designing and development of training manual on Math and Science for grade 3-5 for government primary school teachers.
(2) Teacher trainer will execute this 6 days Training to government primary school teachers’ in Besham on the subjects of Math and Science of grade 3-5.
Required Dates
The teacher training will take place in Besham from Monday, January 18 to 23th to for a total duration of six (6) days.[1] Training times will be from 8:00am to 4:00pm, with an hour break from 1:00-2:00pm for lunch and prayer.
Trainer is expected to arrive in Besham on Monday, January 4th to work with the CRS Education Team for five days (Friday 8th 2016) to finalize training resources and review the training plan.
Methodology
The training should be interactive joyful and participatory based on the adult learning theories. There should be a mix of lectures, exercises, group works; practical examples & practice in controlled environment.
Language for workshop materials and facilitation is desired to be Urdu. The training contents for each should include the following.

- Teacher practice and modeling– Teacher trainer should have sessions that allow teachers to practice new concepts; teacher trainer should have sessions that allow teachers to practice their skills and knowledge in peer groups. Each day, after introducing 1-4 new concepts, time should be set aside for teachers to apply new concepts through lesson modeling and peer review.
- Practical Demonstrations– Participants should be able to transform the learning into the practical use. For this purpose the trainer should provide a demonstration of teaching each concept as an example for the participants.
Outputs/Deliverables[2]
(1) Provide copy of draft teacher training manual/s and lessons to CRS Education Team during the time of interview for review and feedback(incase already available)
(2) Collaborate with CRS Education Team through Skype or phone to make modifications/changes to training plan
(3) Meet in-person with CRS Education Team starting from Monday, January 4th to Friday 8th ,to review the training plan and finalize all training resources and manual
(4) Conduct 6 days teacher training in Besham town with approximately 30 government primary school teachers
(5) Provide CRS and teachers with soft copies of all resources used during the training (to be shared with teachers)
(6) Submit final narrative report within one weeks of completing the assignment. After one week the consultant will submit a first draft for CRS feedback. Then the consultant will submit a final draft, incorporating all feedback, within two weeks of training completion. The report will cover each day activity, pre and post test results as well as recommendations for future.
Consultant Qualifications
(1) Bachelor ’s Degree in Education (B.Ed.)
(2) At least 2-3 years of previous experience as a teacher trainer
(3) Fluency in Urdu Language
(4) Demonstrated knowledge of Pakistan Government curriculum for primary school education
(5) Demonstrated knowledge on subjects of English, Math and Science
(6) Already-developed teacher training manuals a plus
(7) Previous experience working with international NGOs a plus
Teacher trainer is requested to provide a proforma with his/her daily fee rates at the time of application.
CRS will provide accommodation in Besham at a local hotel, and per diem for any meals not included in the teacher training. Per Diem rates are based on CRS’ national per diem policy.

Requirements
