General Background and Position Description

USAID Power Distribution Program (PDP) is providing assistance to the government owned Power Distribution Companies of Pakistan (DISCOs), with the aim to curtail losses, enhance revenues and have a well regulated power distribution system in Pakistan.  PDP’s assistance, in its current phase, is geared towards Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) and Peshawar Electric Power Company (PESCO) and will end in Septmber 2015.

Relevant Experience:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in computer sciences or equivalent
  • Over 5 years of hands on experience
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong advocacy and liaison ability
  • Proficient in  process / project management skills
  • Proficient in English  - speaking and writing
  • Troubleshooting of Performance and Tuning problems in Oracle databases
  • Experience in implementing Backup and Recovery strategies for Oracle databases (Logical Export & Import, Physical – Online and Offline & RMAN) & disaster recovery procedures
  • Experience in Installation, Configuration and patching Oracle Databases / Oracle Weblogic Server
  • Experience in database Design, Development and Support of Oracle 10g/11g/12c in Production and Development
  • Experience in writing and enhance SQL, PL/SQL (Stored Procedures, Database Triggers and Packages) and knowledge in SQL*Loader
  • Experience in Data Guard, Oracle RAC and SAN storage and also in distributed database
  • Experience in Managing AWR, ADDM and Materialized views
  • Oracle Certified professional in 11g DBA will be preferred

Job Description:

  • Maintains database results by setting and enforcing standards and controls.
  • Prepares for database expansion by studying plans and requirements; advising senior technical management; coordinating design and programming.
  • Keeps senior technical management informed by preparing reports on system performance and problems.
  • Upgrades hardware and software by assessing transaction processing and database production options.
  • Maintains database performance by troubleshooting problems.
  • Accomplishes platform upgrades and improvements by supervising system programming.
  • Secures database by developing policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • To work with Data Analyst & Architects, Developers and Quality Analyst on the physical database design and implementation
  • Security Administration for specific application access and user access
  • Assist with database capacity planning
  • Supporting Oracle 11g/12c on Microsoft Windows Server, Solaris and Linux
  •  Storage and workload management. Plan and conduct structured testing of database designs to confirm functionality and performance
  • Perform routine and customary operational and monitoring activities to ensure database integrity, stability, availability and capable of meeting ongoing business needs.
  • Other tasks as may be assigned by the management.
