Purpose of Position:

The primary purpose of this role is to support World Vision Pakistan to achieve advocacy, programmatic and communications strategic objectives, while strengthening accountability, enabling community voice and contributing to partnership knowledge. The role will provide strategic communications support to meeting WVP, regional and national campaign goals. It will also coordinate the conception, production and monitoring of communications for development (C4D) activities, including community messaging (materials and media), community voice and other C4D activities. Intentionally monitoring and reporting on these activities will inform future projects, contribute significantly to humanitarian accountability, and enable World Vision Pakistan to contribute to WV partnership learning in the area. The inclusion of design and production of reports will strengthen WVP’s credibility and visibility with improved reporting to donors, peers and the partnership.

The position reports to the Communications Manager with a dotted line to relevant grant managers/Programs/Ops (project-by-project).


Major Responsibilities: 

Through WV public, donor and media channels, use media relations, communications resource production and community voice expertise to strategically bolster Advocacy efforts. This will include promoting WV’s Advocacy efforts, and working with support offices to ensure World Vision Pakistan’s media profile is increased where appropriate, and organisational risk is minimised.
Strategic campaign support is lent to international advocacy campaigns (for example, Child Health Now)
Identify, monitor and strengthen relationships with key media to promote children’s rights and wellbeing in Pakistan, and to promote WV’s profile where appropriate. Identify and pitch story ideas to local/national media where appropriate, and to media staff in support offices, to increase or improve coverage of World Vision in the global media.
Identify and train local spokespeople to represent World Vision in media interviews.
Prepare advocacy media materials including press releases, editorials, backgrounders, Q&As, speaking and briefing notes, key message documents.
Provide support to the Communications Manager and Advocacy department in planning and implementing specific Advocacy publicity campaigns on key issues. Use social media where appropriate to communicate World Vision messages

Information, Education, and Communication (IEC)

Coordinate the design and production of WVP community awareness/education materials (including brochures, posters, signage, etc.) from conception to printing. Advise on materials from conception stage (from program design onwards). Work with appropriate third parties (designers, illustrators, production houses) to outsource this work when necessary.
C4D & CDAC
Advise on, and have final approval on, community communications such as community messaging for radio campaigns, media awareness and media advocacy projects, including CDAC (Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities) during emergencies,
Produce reports on the effectiveness and impact of communications for development activities, with cooperation from DME, and disseminate these as appropriate
Assist Communications Manager with the coordination of design and production of WVP reports and publications

Internal Communications

a.) Build collaborative and productive relationships with all departments and sectors to help communicate all programs, work, achievements and issues with staff
b.) Work with the Communications Manager to produce leadership briefings that promote understanding and support for programmes, initiatives and changes
c.) Contribute relevant communications resources and updates to WV partnership internal communications (i.e., Connections)

Emergency Communications (support)

Support the Communications Manager and team during emergencies by providing communication and media resources as directed.
Respond to enquiries and requests for communication and media staff in support offices during emergencies – using standard communication and media scheduling tools
Assist External Comms in the production of communication, marketing and media resources – including stories, QAs, speaking notes, backgrounders, bios and head shots

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

A university degree/diploma or equivalent in journalism, communications or public relations.
At least two years related professional experience.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English and Urdu. A working knowledge of other Pakistani languages is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to think and manage strategy, and to plan and meet deadlines.
Excellent design and desktop publishing skills (additional skills in photography and video are advantageous).
Understanding of traditional and new media, including blogs, tweets, and social media.
An energetic, analytical, self-starting and self-managed approach to projects that involve significant responsibility and fixed deadlines
Availability and willingness to travel and work in the field. Must be able to travel at short notice, often to very difficult areas.
Ability to work harmoniously within and contribute to team-building environment, often under pressure.
Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
