ActionAid Pakistan (AAPk) is currently seeking qualified and experienced applicants to fill the above mentioned positions one based in Karachi and one in Thatta. Details of the position are:
Core Responsibilities:
This is a middle level position reporting to the Project Manager with frequent travel within Sind. These posts are offered for a Six (06) months contract with a possibility of extension.
- Develop appropriate shelter and settlement activities to provide timely, adequate shelter, maximising local capacities and livelihood opportunities while reducing shelter and settlement-related risks and vulnerabilities.
- Develop operational plans for shelter activities identified in accordance with appropriate participatory design, construction and monitoring methodologies.
- Ensure that all shelter activities are developed in coordination with other sector’s teams as appropriate. Work closely with public authorities and other organisations in the provision of temporary/permanent shelter that promotes life with dignity.
- Ensure that the shelter response, technical design and linked activities comply with appropriate local community and humanitarian principles and standards.
- Develop plan for installation of hand pumps, sanitary rehabilitation plans, and provision of WASH facilities in selected schools of target union councils.
- Develop and support the implementation of WASH activities as appropriate to the needs of the beneficiaries more so sensitive to women and persons with disabilities
- Ensure that environmental and sustainability issues are considered in the technical design and works, in keeping with agreed best practices.
- Support, train and develop local/national staff and volunteers in shelter planning, maximising community participation, self-help approach for rapid emergency and transitional shelter interventions.
- Ensure that all planned activities are culturally sensitive and take into account the local context, and are in line with Red Cross and NGO Code of Conduct, Sphere minimum standards (if applicable) and humanitarian principles.
- Follow the humanitarian principles, standards and guidelines that ActionAid is committed to, and ensure these are adhered to by ActionAid staff, partner staff, deployees and volunteers
- Ensure that environmental and sustainability issues are considered.
- Ensure transparency and accountability tools, processes and mechanisms to rights holders are in place.
Candidate Profile:
- Associate diploma in Civil Engineering, Architecture, building construction or related technical field.
- At least two to three years of related experience
- Relevant supervisory and management experience, proven good interpersonal skills, along with well-developed training experience.
- Experience in the use of appropriate technologies in local housing models
- Understanding of and commitment to gender and culturalsensitivity.
- Understanding of and commitment to humanitarian principles and minimum standards for disaster response
- A commitment to the importance of downward accountability to rights-holders and transparency in humanitarian response.
- Experience of working with diverse civil society organizations
- Exposure/ability to work in a diversified multicultural set-up.
