About EBDM 

Enterprise for Business & Development Management (EBDM: www.ebdm.biz) is a management consulting and research firm extending advisory and implementation services to a broad range of clients in the non-profit, private and public sectors. EBDM specialises in project management, monitoring & evaluation, research, organisational development, strategy and technology solutions. EBDM also manages its own business initiatives.

The Firm is a small but rapidly growing organisation and requires a dynamic individual to become a full-time/permanent member of the Firm’s Project Management Office. The candidate will be required to contribute primarily to project and business development activities of the Firm. The candidate should therefore be prepared and willing to invest at least the next three years of his/her career in the Firm.

 

GENERAL SCOPE OF WORK

EBDM undertakes various processes and activities relating to project development. These include project bidding independently and as part of a consortium; replication, spin-offs and scale-ups of successful on-going or past projects; development and implementation of the Firm’s own innovative project concepts; and providing all of the aforementioned services to the Firm’s consulting clients. The Project Development Expert, being a member of the PMO, will be placed right in the middle of the action, closely linked to project implementation at one end and personally overseeing the development of new projects and business initiatives on the other. The PMO itself is housed in the organisation’s Strategy and Projects Unit which is also responsible for other functions such as strategy, organisational development and human resource management and development. The Project Development Expert would therefore have all the required information and resources available for effectively performing his/her duties under the direct supervision of the General Manager – Strategy & Projects.

 

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate all project and business development activities of the Firm;
  • Develop and document a system for project and business development including the strategy, policies and standard operating procedures;
  • Identify and develop business opportunities through close involvement in the implementation of on-going projects, participation in partner and strategic meetings, research, planning and networking;
  • Prepare concept notes on potential in-house project ideas;
  • Regularly monitor call for proposals from major bi-lateral and multi-lateral donor agencies, non-profit implementation organisations such as INGOs and national NGOs, government agencies, private sector companies and private foundations etc.;
  • Coordinate the proposal development process with due attention to engaging internal and external resources where required and involving key stakeholders;
  • Prepare project and programme proposals in response to such calls, personally taking responsibility for writing most of the sections of a proposal and soliciting inputs where necessary;
  • Develop the Firm’s institutional network through regularly communicating with existing and potential partners, clients, service providers and consultants;
  • Prepare business plans for various products, services and investments of the Firm in consultation with finance experts and senior management;
  • Develop the Firm’s own initiatives and programmes and play a key role mobilizing financial resources for these initiatives;
  • Keep abreast of applicable donor and financier policies, procedures and development strategies, especially relating to project development, resource allocation and project implementation;
  • In collaboration with the Finance Expert, identify opportunities for acquiring capital investment through venture capital organizations, investment banks and private investors;
  • Regularly participate in meetings, workshops, conferences and seminars and represent the Firm at such events;
  • Provide key inputs in maintaining an appropriate level of the Firm’s visibility in general, including regular update of the organisation’s website, company profile, banners and brochures, publications, advertisements, branding etc.;
  • Contribute significantly towards the development and documentation of the Firm’s business strategy;
  • Manage communication and marketing activities at the organisational level;
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to potential partners, clients and donors as and when required;
  • Organise various workshops and events as necessary to fulfil the requirements of this role, and;
  • Advise clients on all areas of the above functional responsibilities; deliver consulting services in these areas.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters in management or social sciences with at least seven years of post-qualification professional experience;
  • Extensive experience in project development, proposal writing and business development/planning in both the corporate and development sectors is a requirement;
  • Candidates who have prior experience of working with international bi-lateral or multi-lateral development agencies, international NGOs and multi-national companies in a relevant position will be given preference;
  • Knowledge of various funding mechanisms, proposal structures, bidding processes, business planning models is a requirement;
  • Excellent communication and English writing skills are a must; Qualified candidates who can provide proof of an IELTS score of 7.5 or above will be given preference;
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office required;
  • The candidate must be an independent worker who can carry out required tasks and responsibilities diligently, with minimum guidelines and instructions from senior management;
  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities;
  • Ability to cope with challenging work routines; delivering under tight deadlines and multi-tasking;
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style;
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards.
