CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

To ensure that all communication materials produced within Save the Children are within the branding requirements set by Save the Children’s and its Child Safeguarding Policy, and to ensure that all Save the Children partners and participants are receiving ongoing, age-appropriate verbal or written information in relevant languages about Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Senior Manager- Communications and Media will lead the media and communications team and support the Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications and Media (ACCM) Director by overseeing all the media and communications initiatives of the country office.

He/she is required to work with the Country Director and the Senior Management Team (SMT) to identify media and communication priorities and develop a communication strategy for the country office. In this process, he/she is also required to undertake the responsibility of conducting a comprehensive communication risk mapping exercise and set in place a risk mitigation plan.

The Senior Manager - Communications and Media is also required to work with the Technical Advisors and the project leads to design and implement creative/innovative media and communication strategies and assets in line with the advocacy objectives set forth in the Country Strategic Plan (2023-2024). In this process, he/she will be required to extensively engage with external stakeholders - including Government stakeholders, CSO partners of the Country Office, Save the Children regional and global teams and media agencies.

As voices of children and affected communities are at the heart of all communication work of Save the Children, the post holder will be expected to travel to our project areas, consult children and communities, and encourage their participation to amplify their voices through all media and communication work of the country office. With the support of the communications team, the post holder will also be expected to draft high impact case studies in English and collect/edit high impact photos and videos to accompany these stories.

The Senior Manager - Communications and Media will also undertake the responsibility of building the capacities of the communications team and Save the Children staff. Further, he/she will also act as the Child Safeguarding focal point for all media and communication work. This in effect would require the post-holder to ensure strict adherence to the child safeguarding policy in communication work and to train Save the Children staff, partner staff and media partners on child safeguarding requirements when collecting content from the field.

In addition, he/she will lead the processes of designing and dissemination of media and communication materials, managing all social media platforms of Save the Children Pakistan, social listening, coordinating with media agencies, organizing communications and media events, and managing procurement needs.

In the event of a humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Advocacy, Campaigns, Communications and Media Director

Staff reporting to this post: Communications and Media Officer, Digital and Social Media Officer, and Communications and Reporting Officers.

Budget Responsibilities: May be required to manage temporary budgets as required by the line manager.

Role Dimensions:

The role holder is expected to work closely with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaborative partnerships, and always ensuring the best interests of the children we work with.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Developing a communication and media strategy for the country office within framework for country strategic plan and in line with Country Strategic Plan (2023-2024) keeping a child centered approach in external communications and media work.
  • Strategy and implementation of creative/innovative communication materials to build brand profile as leading child rights organization.
  • Engaging with external stakeholders such as agencies, consultants and internal stakeholders to raise profile of Save the Children Pakistan’s work at regional and global level.
  • Consulting and promoting the participation of children and affected communities to amplify their voices through all communication work of the country office.
  • With support from the Communications team lead on case study and content gathering visits to project activities/events, to collect high quality content, including interviews, photos and videos, to tell stories of our impact on the ground and develop related communication products on themes such as climate change, hunger etc.
  • Building the capacities of the communications and media team and Save the Children staff.
  • Acting as the Child Safeguarding focal point for all communication work, ensure strict adherence to child safeguarding policy in communications work, and train Save the Children staff, partner staff and media partners on child safeguarding requirements when collecting content from the field.
  • Leading the processes of designing and dissemination of communication materials.
  • With support from the Digital and Social Media Officer, lead on content strategy for campaigns and programs to strengthen Save the Children Pakistan social media platforms, including audience analysis through social listening grow brand profile through digital & social platforms.
  • With support from the communications and media team, leading on the designing and dissemination of internal and external communication materials and information products and ensuring that the branding and communication guidelines of Save the Children are uniformly and consistently followed across the Pakistan CO.
  • Lead on media stories  and speaking out opportunities to step up Save the Children Pakistan voice on child rights ensuring networks with global and national media networks. Working with Asia Regional Office Media Manager to identify potential media moments highlighting identified advocacy issues and drafting of associated press releases.
  • Facilitating media interviews with the Pakistan Country Director or designate, and leading on media training for media spokespersons as needed and relevant.
  • Facilitating program and response visits accompanying external and internal donors and stakeholders to build brand profile & project impact of our responses and programs.
  • Supporting country office teams to organize policy, advocacy and project events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s or professional degree in marketing, Communications, Advertising, Media, Journalism or related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of  experience working in marketing firms or advertising agency handling brands, communication and media at country or regional level.
  • Experience  in journalism an d in social media  content   development  an d management will be preferred
  • First language proficiency in English and business reading & writing proficiency in Urdu will  be preferred.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience working in marketing, media and communications.
  • Skills in managing  Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and Tik Tok and other social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication strategies.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Urdu, fluency in local languages an asset.
  • Strong written communication skills and experience in writing high impact case studies, media releases and other communication products.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values, including willingness to abide by and enforce the Child Safeguarding policy
  • Ability and willingness to travel to field locations to collect communications content.

 Desirable:

  • Good understanding of the advocacy, campaigns, communication and media work carried out within SC Pakistan.
  • Ability to use software to develop digital assets (social media cards, videos, edit pictures etc).
  • Good understanding of branding and visibility work.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • A high degree of flexibility and adaptability in order to respond to changing needs.
