NATIONAL TRANSGENDER HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

BRIDGING THE BARRIERS - INCLUSION OF TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY IN FLOOD RELIEF AND RESPONSE

Peace & Justice Network Pakistan (PJN) and National Commission for Human Rights have initiated a national flood emergency advocacy, capacity development and awareness program "Bridging the Barriers - Inclusion of Transgender  Community in Flood Relief and Response" supported by Concern Worldwide/USAID-BHA which aims to build a robust coordination and protection mechanism at national, provincial and in 33 targeted flood-affected districts.

Under this national program, PJN and NCHR aims to provide technical and capacity development support at national, provincial, and district levels to government departments and humanitarian organizations working on flood disaster response to ensure the inclusion of the transgender community. Under this program, the Peace and Justice Network (PJN) is introducing a National Fellowship program for the transgender community to ensure inclusive flood disaster relief and response. Applications are invited from transgender persons from the following districts;

Benefits

The Fellowship is a paid opportunity; a remuneration of Rs.30,000 will be paid each month for a period of three months

The selected Fellow will get exposure and the opportunity to interact with the government and international humanitarian organizations.

The Fellow skills will be developed Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Inclusion, Flood Relief Efforts, Protection System, Transgender Act, Safeguarding during Floods, Engagement with Government Departments, Legal Protection Framework etc., through residential training in Islamabad with national and international mentors.

 

Eligibility Criteria

  • Access to the grassroots level transgender community who are affected by flood in their district.
  • Proven Experience in activism at the district level and working with NGOs. Experience with the government department will be added advantage.
  • Experience in organizing community sessions and district meetings.
  • Applicants must be residents of the above mentioned district affected by the flood disaster

 

Roles & Responsibilities

The fellow will act as the focal person of the project in the district and keep close liaison with District Administration with Peace & Justice Network district technical partner to lobby for the inclusion of Trans community members in the district disaster committee. The fellow will hold meetings and build linkages with district administration, other relevant government line departments, and national and international humanitarian organizations.

The fellow will identify Trans community members in the district and ensure they receive necessary relief assistance and support, such as food, shelter, protection, and health.

The fellow will be responsible for managing transgender community member list-serves and assist with providing information (IEC material) with support from local partners and collecting human interest stories from the field to feed into social media campaigns (in URDU or Audio Video clips)
