Purpose

 Communication officer will contribute to designing, planning, and implementing communication projects and activities in coordination with the head of Communications. S/he contributes to representing the ICRC externally and building the necessary understanding and acceptance of and support for the ICRC among key stakeholders. Moreover, this role will contribute towards enhancing internal communications and stock management.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to defining communication and, where relevant, prevention objectives, strategies and plans of action for the geographic area or programme covered, in line with the organization’s priorities and communication strategy.
  • With minimum supervision, implements relevant activities and develops tools for: operational communication, promoting international humanitarian law (IHL), public communication, information analysis, interaction with interlocutors and operational departments, public affairs and resource mobilization.
  • Produces, revises and curates’ content for the intranet as well as other internal communication channels, such as newsletters, internal promotional documents, and events.
  • Prepares and deliver customized dissemination sessions on the ICRC’s work, adapted for targeted audiences (i.e., government bodies, humanitarian organizations, interlocuters, academia)
  • Supports the implementation of internal communication actions and plans for a range of ICRC projects, thematic issues, and units.
  • Supports the Communication Manager in networking with relevant stakeholders and represents the ICRC to various audiences.
  • Work closely with the National Society Communication Officer and all operational departments to conduct field visits to identify stories as well as opportunities for joint activities.
  • Maintains the communication material stock organized and inventories updated.
  • Supports communication-related training and coaching for field-structure staff and/or other departments.

 Main Requirements:

  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as communications, political science, international relations, or journalism.
  • A minimum of 03 years of work experience as a communication/prevention expert in a humanitarian organization, or a similar field, with expertise in public communication, arranging and coordinating information sharing, content production, and report writing.
  • Research background and experience working with academia and think tanks will be an asset.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Expert knowledge of English and Urdu.
  • IHL knowledge an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of the political, social, and media environment in Pakistan.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate complex information into clear and powerful messages
  • Excellent writing skills.
