CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3:  the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The purpose of this position is to provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) to children enrolled in Child Friendly Spaces and or living in camps / communities. PFA and MHPSS needs to be delivered in a professional and structured manner. Taking guidance from Manager CP and CRG, the position holder will follow Save the Children tools, guidelines and manual on PFA and MHPSS and will roll out at the field level with children.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

The MHPSS coordinator will be required to provide the following support:

  • Support and facilitates the psychological wellbeing activities of the children at Child Friendly Spaces.
  • Define psychosocial activities to be implemented according to the children’s ages and situation and contribute to the development of a child friendly space curriculum.
  • Conduct sessions with group of children and community members on general awareness.
  • Educate family members on what they can do for their child or how to respond to certain behaviours.
  • Organize community, rehabilitation and awareness activities for children and their families.
  • Conduct screening and assessment of traumatized children and develop rehabilitation plans according to their needs and integrate them in Child Friendly Space activities.
  • Assessing the child to determine the problem, developing a strategy, and meeting with the child along with his/her parent / guardian for the required support.
  • Promote the effective participation of all children in the activities, courses and programs.
  • Ensure a prompt and timely response to children determined and identified at ‘high risk’ through project activities.
  • Identify and establish internal and external referral services for emotionally instable / traumatized children.
  • Promote, ensure and establish the child as a central actor in case management practices.
  • Other project related duties assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Advanced degree in psychology, mental health or other relevant field.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • At least 3 years of experience of working with children / people on Psychosocial / psychological interventions.
  • Experience of training (including developing the training package) on PFA / MHPSS and supportive supervision.
  • Experience of working with NGOs (in emergency and development settings) on PFA / MHPSS projects/interventions.
  • Previous Experience of providing services on the workplace (staff of various organizations).
  • Experience and knowledge of computer/technology based therapies (video conferencing, telehealth etc.).
  • Strong command on English, Pashto and Dari languages
