CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3:  the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Child Protection (CP) Field Coordinator is responsible for management and oversight of Save the Children’s Child Protection technical interventions at the field level to address violations of children’s rights, and to ensure children are protected from abuse, exploitation, violence and neglect. CP Field Coordinator will be responsible to coordinate effectively with other humanitarian actors and the implementing partners (where required), and the teams in the field for quality assurance and smooth program operations. The position holder will support Manager CP/CRG in project matters at the field level.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Support Manager CP/CRG in development of implementation plans for the approved programs.
  • Support Manager CP/CRG in setting up Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) at the field level and supervise CFS interventions and provide guidance to CFS facilitators to ensure that activities are implemented in an appropriate and agreed manner.
  • Identify children with urgent child protection needs and support them in provision of age and culturally-appropriate information and case management and referral support (intra / inter agency)
  • Where there is an immediate risk to the child, immediately prioritize relevant interventions through a comprehensive assessment and develop a case plan for the required support.
  • Oversee all field level CP interventions including but not limited to children’s enrollment in CFS, referral mechanism / case management support, identification of Separated and Unaccompanied Children and their referral for family tracing and reunification, provision of Psychological First Aid, IEC material development and other advocacy initiatives.
  • Established and strengthen community and or camp-based child protection mechanisms (adult / child).
  • Ensure effective and coordinated response for children and work closely with Protection clusters, sub cluster and working groups for appropriate, timely and informed response. 
  • Ensures that health and safety regulations are understood and followed and that health and safety incidents are logged.
  • Ensures the participation of all groups of children, especially children who are the most vulnerable in programmatic interventions.
  • Support in identification of capacity gaps and capacity building needs of staff through comprehensive training need assessments, and support implementation of capacity building plans
  • Coordinate with SC MEAL team for proper documentation, data collection and monitoring of project deliverables.
  • Support in preparation of assessments, evaluations, high-quality donor and other periodic narrative reports as and when required.
  • Include SC approach to child participation in all CP work, wherever practicable, and seek to develop and incorporate child-friendly methodologies to promote child participation in CP programme implementation.
  • Perform any other project related tasks assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Post-graduate degree in Social Sciences or related discipline

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 05 years of experience in development organisations, and working on Child Protection in Emergencies including project management.
  • Good analytical skills backed by experience that spans areas such as field experience in Child Protection program management.
  • An in-depth understanding of development issues pertaining to children, sensitive to child protection issues.
  • Strong communication skills both in written and oral in English.

Desirable

  • Experience in advocacy at the level of communities, NGOs, and donor agencies.
  • Good understanding of Pashtu and Dari languages.
  • Skills related to participatory research methods, computer literacy and financial management.
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills:  tact, ability to accept criticism, tolerance, assertiveness, the ability to adapt behavioral style to the circumstances in order to achieve positive outcomes.
