THE “WHY” - Purpose of the Position                                                                                             

 The Media Coordinator will support the Project Manager by leading engagement with media actors, providing technical inputs and guidance, and coordinating project activities such as the media mentorships and fellowships, as well as ensure all aspects of reporting on the project’s media activities.

THE “WHAT” - Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 Project implementation

  • Support the program team in developing and implementing trainings on conflict sensitive journalism
  • Work with university partners to develop journalist training program that engages hard-to-reach populations
  • Develop and run a media mentorship program to connect participants to notable journalists and heads of media houses
  • Providing ongoing coaching and support to media fellowship recipients
  • Build partnerships with press clubs and support them to build their capacity to address gender issues
  • Support press clubs to implement workshops with media houses and reform initiatives and provide ongoing coaching
  • Identify and facilitate opportunities for women in target areas to engage in networks for women journalists

Collaboration with media partners

  • Ensure regular contact with the press clubs and other media actors engaged in the project
  • Provide coaching to press clubs and media fellowship recipients
  • Ensure that feedback and learning is built into the program
  • Establish and build on networks for aspiring journalists, particularly women

Reporting and capturing results

  • Collaborate with the M&E team to monitor the quality of activities and gather participant feedback
  • Prepare activity reports and contribute to quarterly reports in English
  • Participate in reflection exercises and monitoring activities with program and M&E staff to analyze findings and contextual updates and adapt programmatic approaches to maximize outreach activities and the overall project’s impact

Communication

  • Contribute to communication and visibility efforts across programs, including with photos, audio, and video content and social mediaCreate/edit videos and photographs, social media and digital projects as needed
  • Maintain a cohesive organizational visual identity in line with organizational and donor branding guidelines and create digital communication and visibility materials

The “HOW” - Skills & Competencies

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Media Studies/Mass Communication or a related field from a recognized institution

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of journalism or media production experience
  • Track record working with media organizations and media networks at the provincial or national levels
  • Experience working in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
  • Experience of partnership building, with experience of influencing stakeholders and establishing and maintaining strong partnerships
  • Experience developing and managing organizational communications including newsletters and publications.
  • Experience developing and managing organizational digital content including website and social media.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the media landscape and media actors in Pakistan;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe-Creative Suit (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, or InDesign), and technical skills (photography, videography and sound if possible);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, presentation and effective communication with a variety of stakeholders;
  • Knowledge and skills of using and developing social media and web content;
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm while working in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment with minimal supervision;
  • Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in dialogue, peacebuilding and conflict transformation
  • High level of gender sensitivity and understanding of locally-sensitive approaches to engaging and mobilizing women participants;
  • Ability to work under pressure and in challenging environments;
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances;
  • Willingness to travel regularly to Search’s field offices; and
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, Urdu, and Pashto.
