Position:                               Horticulture Value Chain Specialist

Introduction

A public sector funded project, working for the development of selective value chains in horticulture sector, is inviting applications for the position of Value Chain Specialist(Horticulture) on contract basis to be based at Lahore.This is a senior position reporting to the Team Lead.

Overview

The Value Chain Specialist will be responsible for the improvement of overall Horticulture value Chains of the project and will report to Team Lead in the head office, Lahore.

 Scope of Work

The value Chain Specialist will be responsible for the improvement of Horticulture value chains and to ensure that activities are implemented in accordance with design as per project concept. Following are the main tasks:

Specific Tasks:

Value Chain Specialist(Horticulture) will

  • Identify the value chain gaps and analysis for designing and facilitating the implementation of interventions for better economic returns for the already formed project clusters.
  • Coordinate with all the relevant stakeholders for efficiently facilitating supply chain management around each value chain (Mango, Citrus, Potato, vegetables and Floriculture)
  • Provide the marketing strategy and assistance in improving the overall performance, profitability and marketability of the product lines across the project target’s value chains.
  • Mapping of existing market actors for National and International markets with reference to Mango, Citrus, Potato/vegetables and Floriculture.
  • Develop market linkages with market players including exporters, intermediaries in the export markets, and importers of horticulture produce in the major markets.
  • Develop and implement work plan for developing market linkages between Project target beneficiaries and partners and market players in the high potential markets within/across Pakistan.
  • Work with Project partners and beneficiaries including farmer groups and exporters to enhance their capacity for selling/exporting their produce at competitive prices and thereby enhancing their profitability.
  • Liaise with marketing support institutions, trade bodies and other support agencies, institutions and projects for assisting project beneficiaries and partners for enhancing marketability of their produce.
  • Provide technical support to Regional teams in strengthening clusters/interest Groups and developing market linkages.
  • Develop a leading local forum of all the concerned stakeholders including public, private and non-government organization for resource sharing and up-scaling of tested interventions under the project
  • Any other task related to job requirement as assigned by the Team Lead

Relevant Experience:

  • Must have Master degree in agriculture marketing.
  • Minimum 8- 10 years of national/regional / international marketing experience in an exporting/marketing company, in economic growth, trade, value chain competitiveness, agricultural development, and/or creating market linkages.
  • Understanding or prior exposure to agriculture/horticulture sector.
  • Work experience in a development agency or in a development project environment is preferred
  • Agribusiness marketing experience and proven familiarity with marketing structures, strategies, rules and regulations for fresh and processed horticultural products.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Excellent communications and writing ability.
  • Fluency in both English and Urdu required; other Pakistani languages preferred.
  • Willingness to frequently travel to project areas throughout Pakistan for extended periods.
