Project Description:

The U.S.-Pakistan Partnership for Agricultural Market Development (AMD) activity in Pakistan is a USAID funded activity implemented by CNFA with the goal of supporting the development of Pakistan’s commercial agriculture, particularly through improving the ability of Pakistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors to meet both international and domestic demand and requirements in targeted product lines in citrus, mango, high value/off season vegetables and livestock. AMD’s targeted interventions such as training, matching grants, and technical assistance is aimed to leverage private sector investment and encourage innovation. Together, these interventions will upgrade and streamline supply chains, optimize profit margins, increase in horticulture produce export, enhancing participation of women entrepreneurs, and ultimately make Pakistani mango, citrus, meat and HV/OSV production and marketing more profitable and competitive.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

STTA will work under the position of Consultant Agri-Engineer. The objective of this assignment is to provide technical assistance to grantees in normal operationalization and trouble shooting of grant machinery and equipments. These grant machinery/equipment includes but not limited to:

 

1.      TMR wagons

2.      Single Row and row independent Maize Harvesters

3.      Forage Harvesters

4.      Silage baler

5.      Bunk shaver

6.      Pneumatic planter

7.      Hand driven fodder cutter

8.      Tractor trolleys

9.      Feed mill units (mash and pellet)

10.    Hay movers, tedder, racker and baler

11.    Electronic weighing scale and cattle crush

12.    Forage choppers

13.    Tractor loader

In the duration of 60 days STTA assignment, the Consultant will conduct field visits to feedlot, backgrounding for technical assistance in normal working of machinery/equipments. Following is the list of feedlot/backgrounding farms where onsite services will be given:

 Specific duties include:

1.       According to the technical literature provided by the manufacturer, development of SOPs for efficient usage and routine maintenance of the equipments in user friendly way (English and Urdu) under different agro-ecological conditions.

a.       Precautions and SOPs before use

b.      Precautions and SOPs during use

c.       Precautions and SOPs after use

d.      Precautions and SOPs while machinery/equipment is not in use during off seasons.

2.      Onsite visits (See Annex-I) to all AMD feedlot and backgrounding grantees to assist in effective and efficient 

         use of grant machinery and equipments in full capacity.

3.      Train and build the working capacity of 2-3 skilled workers of each grantee for effective usage, handling and

         routine maintenance/care of machinery/equipments.

4.      Periodical onsite physical inspection and monitoring of the grant machinery/equipments

5.      To develop a comprehensive manual on “Working and Maintenance Manual of Grant Machinery and Equipment”

6.      Any other assignment assigned by the Livestock Director / COP.

Working Conditions / Special Considerations:

The employee is expected to comply with the terms and conditions as noted in the letter of agreement with CNFA.

Lahore will be the primary duty post, but the employee may spend most of the time in other project areas (Faisalabad, Khushab, Lodhran, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Thatta, Kotri, Sanghar, Sheikhupura) within Pakistan.

Qualifications:

  • Pakistani national
  • An advanced degree (B.Sc Hons. or above) in the field of Agri- Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge and vast practical experience (Minimum 5 years) of handling and trouble shooting of local/imported agriculture, livestock farms and feed mill equipments and machinery.

Preferred Personal Skills:

  • Sound knowledge on farmer capacity building in relevant sector.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent report writing, technical and extension literature preparation
  • Creativity and a willingness to innovate, think systemically and design catalytic interventions
  • Team player, with excellent organizational skills, demonstrable training design and delivery, time management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
