Chemonics International seeks a Business Enabling Environment (BEE) Associate for its USAID Small and Medium Enterprises Activity (SMEA).  Pakistan SMEA is a 5-year, $35 million project that is aimed at improvement of financial and operating performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan in selected high-performing industrial, manufacturing and services sectors. 

Business Enabling Environment Associate:

The BEE Associate will work with the BEE team to implement project activities and policy reforms to improve the business-enabling environment for SMEs. To assist in all aspects of the Project’s work plan and achievement of project objectives. Support the BEE team in day-to-day operational and reporting matters. Furnish weekly activity tracking tools for purpose of weekly SMEA meetings and reports (weekly, biweekly, quarterly, annually) , in coordination and on behalf of the BEE component.

The BEE Associate will report to the BEE Deputy Team Lead and responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the implementation of the strategic BEE activities to ensure successful implementation of the project’s work plan and components
  • Develop write-ups, presentations, activity brief’s, reports (weekly, biweekly, quarterly, annual), internal reporting trackers, progress updates, monitoring & evaluation sheets, scopes of work and all other technical documentations as directed and advised by the BEE team.
  • Support the team in generating travel requests for team members and consultants, and ensure all such requests are forwarded to the Operations Team on time.
  • Provide support to the BEE team in managing events, focus group discussions, organizing and setting up meetings and other forms of engagement.
  • Coordinate with the operations team to ensure that all conference rooms/venues, equipment, catering arrangements, logistics and other requirements are booked for meetings, conferences and relevant project activities.
  • Review and edit conference material, assist with the creation of material/information packets, and coordinating with the Ops team for printing of support materials/handouts for meetings wherever relevant.
  • Arrange and participate in meetings, conferences, and project team activities, take and prepare minutes of those meetings.
  • Manage, organize, update and file data related to project activities in soft and hard copies
  • Assist the team in archiving in a compliant manner all documents related to work plan actions including, but not limited to, position descriptions, scopes of work, background readings, deliverables, and other documents.
  • Ensure that all necessary routine and ad hoc reporting on component activities provides a timely, high quality, and accurate reflection of the component’s progress toward its goals and objectives and are acceptable to USAID.
  • Assist the BEE team in managing and supervising the tasks and deliverables of the consultants working on various project activities.
  • Ensure close inter-component and inter-office collaboration with the other SMEA project components to ensure effective oversight and implementation of project activities. Liaise with the monitoring and evaluation, communications, and HO teams as required.
  • Undertake research and work with private sector and government stakeholders and with project colleagues to ensure optimal design and implementation of the BEE work plan as directed.
  • Assist SMEA BEE team and contracted consultants as a researcher on technical activities.
  • Carry out primary and secondary research on existing and proposed activities; working with public sector institutions, stakeholders, associations, developmental organizations, SMEs and other donors.
  • Conduct economic benefit analyses/impact evaluation to quantify the impact of policy reforms.
  • Facilitate research into various SME development models to analyze their contribution towards economic growth and development by applying theoretical concepts for policy reform.
  • Perform all other relevant duties that may be assigned by the BEE Team or the Chief of Party or his/her designee.
