General Background and Position Description

USAID Power Distribution Program (PDP) is providing assistance to the government owned Power Distribution Companies of Pakistan (DISCOs), with the aim to curtail losses, enhance revenues and have a well regulated power distribution system in Pakistan.  PDP’s assistance, in its current phase, is geared towards Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) and Peshawar Electric Power Company (PESCO) and will end in Septmber 2015

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Qualification: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Sciences
  • Field of education: Computer Sciences
  • Experience: Fresh

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with managements.
  • Assist in companywide development of standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communications with project consultants, DISCO employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to organize work, establishes priorities, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.

Job Description:

Under direction of the Task Manager, analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain servers, including but not limited to ensuring file system integrity, reviewing log records, check/maintain disk space, load operating system and computer patches, ensure servers are operational.

  • Under supervision of Task Manager, manage networks including LAN, WAN, VPN, Network Security, Mail System, Web based workflow system and voice network.
  • Responsible for storage and regular backup of data.
  • Run Help Desk for users in the Company.
  • Identify/implement modification/expansions of network as and when required
  • Responsible for the Information security, including implementation and constant update of antivirus software
  • Verify /assign/research/change user rights, password requirements, intruder detections, login scripts, groups and memberships.
  • Research/create/modify/delete/move/maintain GroupWise user accounts/groups/resources and files/directories.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports evaluating system needs and develop network administrator task procedures.
  • Assist users via helpdesk phone calls and assist technical staff providing technical support in resolving network related problems and off-line-shelf software support.
  • Research/create/modify/delete/move/maintain network objects (users, groups, templates) assigning rights, groups, memberships, identification, password requirements, login scripts).
  • Research/correct network object problems (reassign passwords, unlock intruder detect, add-remove from groups, directory & file rights, change login scripts and login names, change login connections.
  • Analyze entire GroupWise user database to document /correct duplicate login names.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports evaluating system needs and develop network administrator task procedures.
  • Maintain log records of server problems, server patches completed, memory upgrades required.
  • Troubleshoot server problems, including account maintenance, server security and software configuration.
  • Analyze/maintain/clean-up server start-up files.
  • Recommend and test solutions for potential hardware and software problems.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Responsible for all related activities of Network.

Note: Project will end by September 2015 and this position will end in June 2015
