Chemonics International seeks a Short Term Assistant (Internship), Competitive Enhancement Component for its USAID Small and Medium Enterprises Activity (SMEA). Pakistan SMEA is a 5-year, $35 million project that is aimed at improvement of financial and operating performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan in selected high-performing industrial, manufacturing and services sectors.
Short Term Assistant (Internship):
The SMEA project is looking for appropriately qualified individuals who can work as Interns in the above-mentioned sectors. Preference will be given to those individuals who have the basic knowledge of SME sector in Pakistan.
The objective of this internship is to gain experience working with a development program to implement CE initiatives. The intern will work with the CE component for a short-term period to support in the successful implementation and completion of its programmatic activities and day to day operational / running tasks.
As directed by the supervisor for this position and by the CE Team Lead, the intern shall perform and support the performance of the following specific tasks:
- Effectively liaise with the USAID SMEA technical team, on all aspects of the USAID SMEA Project work plan implementation;
- Assist in the implementation of the strategic CE work, activities for necessary for the timely and successful completion of the CE Project work
- Plan tasks and the achievement of component goals and objectives;
- To assist the CE team in managing and supervising the tasks and deliverables of various interventions.
- Assist in developing write-ups, presentations, activity brief’s, scopes of work and all other technical documentations as directed and advised by the CE team.
- Supporting the team in generating travel requests for the consultants and ensuring all such requests are forwarded to the Operations Team on time
- Providing support to the CE team in managing events, focus group discussions, organizing and setting up meetings and other forms of engagement.
- Participate in all internal SMEA meetings and with external partners as directed by the CE team
- Furnish weekly activity tracking tools for purpose of weekly SMEA meetings and reports-weekly, biweekly for USAID, in coordination and on behalf of CE
- Ensure that all necessary routine and ad hoc reporting on component activities provides a timely, high quality, and accurate reflection of the component’s progress toward its goals and objectives and are acceptable to USAID;
- Ensure close inter-component and inter-office collaboration with the other SMEA project components and sub-components, and promote close collaboration with the monitoring and evaluation, training and communications components of the SMEA Project; and
- Undertake research and work with private sector stakeholders and with project colleagues to ensure optimal design and implementation of the CE work plan.
Duration of the Assignment:
This internship is planned to take place as per a start date of on or around September 10, 2018 and end date of on or around December 30, 2018 (subject to date of mobilization) hereto for a total of 85 days spread over a period of 4 months, with the individual working no more than 8 hours/day.
Duty Post: The individual will be based in Islamabad and will be working closely with the CE team.
Qualifications:
- A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Studies or related field.
- Prior experience in research, report writing and an in depth understanding of the SMEs in Pakistan will be preferred.
- Ability to perform successfully as a member of multiple project-related teams;
- Excellent communications and writing ability in English;
- Demonstrated successful interpersonal skills;
