About the Project:

Pakistan Agricultural Technology Transfer Activity (PATTA) is a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project designed to increase smallholder farmers’ access to markets, alongside their overall development impact and cost-effectiveness. Smallholders farmers in Pakistan use outdated and less effective technologies, leading to stagnant or dwindling productivity and returns, particularly in the horticulture and livestock sub-sectors. Because improved technologies that are affordable, impactful, and safe have not yet penetrated the vast smallholder market. PATTA will combat these challenges by galvanizing ongoing private-sector investment to commercialize the types of agricultural technologies that enable smallholders to increase their incomes, improve farm productivity, create jobs, and enhance economic growth and stability. These technologies include seeds, fertilizers, water pumps, improved plant and animal breeds, precision agriculture, and integrated soil fertility management, amongst others.

Position Description:

Working under the supervision of COP, the Gender Integration Officer will be responsible identifying gender-based constraints facing women in access to agricultural technologies.

Place of Performance:

Islamabad, Pakistan 

Frequent travel will be required to project areas. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

The main duties of the Consultant Gender Integration are: 

  • Identify gender-based constraints to women’s access to and control over agricultural technologies, information, inputs and resources in targeted areas, and in strategizing solutions to be implemented through program activities;
  • Develop a comprehensive gender integration plan for Ag technologies introduction, promotion and adoption.
  • Identify STTA needs related to Ag Tech Extension and gender integration, work with the BDMS Unit to fill requirements, and oversee consultants.
  • Share project findings and materials developed on Ag Tech diffusion and gender integration with other donor projects, public-sector organizations, trainers, extension agents, and other key stakeholders
  • Identify the importance of gender-sensitive technologies and their impact on small holder productivity
  • Review Gender Integration Strategy and Women participation opportunities in the project;
  • Assist in project Work plan, M&E Plan, gender integration and sustainability plans

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Pakistani national;
  • Experience leading (supporting, working with gender related networks) Gender integration preferably in Agriculture.
  • At least seven years of relevant, professional experience in roles with increasing levels of responsibility required, 10+ years preferred;
  • Experience supporting donor-funded projects is required, USAID experience preferred;
  • Bachelor degree in Gender studies, economic development, agribusiness, agriculture, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred;
  • Fluency in English is and local languages required.
