Chiller Operator is responsible for the safe and proper operation of the HVAC System and associated control structures. They operate, maintain and adjust chillers, cooling tower, AHUs, pumps, heat exchangers, motors, chillers, cooling towers, equipment for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, lighting and associated equipment in the HVAC System.  Chiller Operator makes periodic inspections of equipment and minor repairs to such equipment; perform preventive maintenance; take responsible charge of a watch, read meters, gauges, and other recording devices and log the data; keep records and write reports; as directed, inspect in accordance with a unified inspection procedure.

Job Objectives

-       Participate in the testing & commissioning, handover and implementation of the HVAC system in accordance with compliance and requirements. Identify any snags, defects and generate a report on the corrective measures

-       Strong team skills, but candidate has the ability to manage shifts in which they are the only Plant Operations Staff on duty.

-       Operates the HVAC system including:

  • Chillers, Boilers and related Pumps
  • Cooling Towers, including the testing and documentation of the water treatment system
  • Room environmental control systems including thermostats and VAV’s
  • Exhaust fans

-       Operate and maintain industrial domestic water heaters, booster pumps, and mixing valves.

-       Operates and maintains Air Compressors and Vacuum Pumps

-       Knowledge of Fire Suppression and Detection systems

-       Performs Preventative Maintenance to established schedule, including required documentation.

-       Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns

-       Should provide a high level of customer’s service to the Client and Site Personnel.

-       Carry out other duties as directed by the line management

 

Skills & Equipment Knowledge

-       Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people.

-       Understands basic refrigeration cycle to include: identifying components in refrigeration circuit, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the refrigeration circuit, using manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart and temperature measuring devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot. Understands refrigeration recovery, evacuation and charging.

-       Understands basic electron theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single phase and three phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits. Ability to read basic wiring diagrams. Understanding of Ohms Law. Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values. Must be able to troubleshoot basic electrical circuits.

-       Understands the process of treating air so as to simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, and distribution. Must be able to read and understand mechanical drawings.

-       Understands basic heating cycle to include: identifying components in heating system, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the heating system using a gas pressure test and other devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot. Understands the theory of combustion and how it relates to combustible fuels such as gas and oil.

Requirements (Education & Experience)

The identified candidate is a holder of diploma in mechanical engineering or HVAC discipline or equivalent with a 8 years` experience in a building services / facilities management environment with 5 years of relevant experience in HVAC systems technically. He must have a proven track record of operating leading brand of HVAC systems and associated equipment and technically competent in operation of HVAC systems with a clear technical understanding of buildings electrical, mechanical and plant and associated equipment. He must be flexible excellent attention to detail, ability to identify key issues and manage an environment of innovation and regular change and able to work under stringent deadlines and high pressure environment.
