The Embassy of Switzerland is the official representation of Switzerland and covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations and development cooperation between the two countries. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, financial and legal affairs, as well as science, education and culture. In Pakistan, the focus of the development cooperation program is on ‘Water’ and ‘Local State Building’ with a budget of about 18 Mio Swiss francs per year.
In order to strengthen our team we are currently looking for a Pakistani national for the position as
Senior Programme Officer Water Governance (50%), 1 year with possibility of extension
JOB MANDATE:
The Senior Programme Officer as a member of the program team of SDC Islamabad, Pakistan is engaged in the Water Governance domain. Under the supervision of the SCO Management, she/he is contributing to the policy dialogue in the area of Water Governance and is responsible for the development and implementation of projects in this field. She/he steers, monitors and evaluates projects according to the work plan.
She/he ensures the reporting regarding the activities of the international cooperation in the relevant topics related to Water Governance as well as the SDC projects in Pakistan. An important task will be the coordination and communication with the national and provincial government (KP and FATA), with development partners, as well as with civil society.
Together with the team member she/he is contributing to the strategic development and implementation of the overall Pakistan Programme of SDC.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Master’s degree in Political Science, Natural Science, Economy, International Development or other relevant field.
Experience
- Min. 5 years professional experience in development work in a comparable position
- Practical experience in project cycle management
- Sound knowledge of results-based planning, monitoring and evaluation methods
- Practical experience of partnership management/working with project implementing partners
- Familiarity with the functioning of the Government of Pakistan and its line departments, in particular at the provincial level (KP) and in FATA
- In depth understanding of current issues in poverty reduction, water governance and other related development topics
- Awareness of conflict sensitive programme management (CSPM) and gender issues
- Resilient to high workload and ability to work independently and under pressure
- Excellent spoken and written language skills in English; good knowledge of Urdu and / or other national languages is an advantage

- Excellent IT skills (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical skills
- Able to work independently and proactively with strong personal and social competences
- Able to meet deadlines while remaining organized and accurate
