General Scope of Work:

The Copy Editor is responsible for an initial round of proofreading to ensure that written text is concise, consistent for both grammatical and factual correction. This position also ensure that each sentence is comprehensible and that concepts expressed are in a logical, sequential manner. This is a key position for an editorial team comprised of content writers and editors that may also include proof readers and fact-checkers. The job frequently requires working under intense deadline pressure without compromising standards to the publications. This involves both copy editing of articles concept pages and layout before it goes for printing. The position requires a careful eye and close attention to detail, as well as knowledge of LEAD Pakistan style and basic grammar rules. Copy editors ensure that articles, infographics, updates, case studies and other materials are free of errors, easy to read and conform to the publication's style.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To make sure names, titles, and years are accurate and spelt correctly in addition, may involve checking to make sure that there are no gaping factual inaccuracies in other aspects of the articles.
  2. Basic grammar & punctuation: Editing articles for general mechanical mistakes/errors. To make sure that the content contains impeccable spelling, grammar, and sentence structure to ensure reading flows smoothly.
  3. Writing style: Editing articles to make them follow journalistic writing style, especially in terms of using quotes, using tenses, dividing paragraphs, etc.
  4. To implement content development Standards along with author's guidelines, forms, and check lists for maintaining quality across the outputs.
  5. Making sure articles adhere to the rules of the approved guidelines. This includes things such aspects as special rules for LEAD Pakistan phrases Web site, dates, numbers, titles, headlines, etc.
  6. Making sure that the paper, when it is laid out by the production team, contains no errors. Examples: ensuring no text carries off the page, that dates and page numbers are accurate, that headlines are full and complete; that “jumps” (continued to page X, continued from page X) are correct, that photos have borders and captions, etc
  7. To write, and edit integrated internal and external communication pieces such as news releases, brochures, advertisements, presentation materials, speeches, web content, general correspondence, feature articles and stories, fact sheets, newsletters & blogs.

Professional & Qualification Requirements:

  1. Educated to Master’s Degree in the journalism or English subject (literature, creative writing) from a well reputed University.
  2. Experience as a Copy Editor of at least 5 years. Evidence of authoring papers, articles, and related literature. 
  3. Good interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise and communicate with colleagues at all levels of seniority.
  4. Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative, and to manage team.
  5. Strong all round communication skills, including fluent written and spoken English, including editorial skills.
  6. To prepare policies and author guidelines and ensure compliance to the standards.

The positions relate to a landmark project in Water in the Punjab Province.

All position required frequent travel between Islamabad & Lahore and Districts of Southern Punjab.
