ORGANIZATION

THE LEgAL AID SOCIETY (LAS) is a Society registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 on 19th November 2013 with registration number KAR. No.058 of 2013-14, operating under and through its authorized representative and Chairperson, Justice Nasir Aslam Zahid.

LAS is a not for profit organization with the aim of addressing the challenges in delivering justice in Pakistan. The society was formed in response to the acute gap between the supply and service of effective legal aid and the volume of unmet demand for legal services from the disempowered, uninformed and marginalized segments of society.

The Legal Advisory Call Centre (LACC) is a flagship project undertaken by the LAS. The Call Centre provides free legal advice to callers inquiring about any legal matter through a toll free telephone line number 0800-70806. This initiative caters to the primary legal needs of society and has the potential to benefit the largest number of people spread across the country.

POSITION

LAS is looking for a Communication and Outreach Manager (COM) to lead efforts to further the main objectives of the society in strengthening the legal awareness and the delivery of legal services in Pakistan and to build the society’s profile with potential donors, supporters, decision makers and target beneficiaries.

The COM will be working to broaden the breadth, depth and diversity of our donors and supporters in order to make the organization sustainable in future on one hand and design an outreach program to create awareness of our services for the target beneficiaries on the other the Manager will be conducting an in-depth mapping exercise to identify key entry points for LAS to engage with Private and Public Sector entities, supporting Rule of Law initiative.

The COM will report to the COO of the society but will work very closely with the Chairperson and senior members of the management.

The position is based in Karachi but may require extensive travel through the country.  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will demonstrate competency and divide his/her time between marketing and communications.

 

  • Stakeholder mapping of private and public sector actors interested in Rule of Law initiatives.
  • Setting up meetings of Senior Management of LAS with the stakeholders.
  • Lead the design and implementation of an extensive communication plan.
  • Develop and implement effective branding and messaging to support LAS objectives and goals.
  • Assist the Finance Department in preparation of budget for Communications and Marketing.
  • Manage and execute marketing, outreach and public engagement programs.
  • Oversee the development, production and distribution of print and electronic marketing material.
  • Develop, write and edit promotional videos, blog posts, newsletters, fact sheets, success stories and donor appeals.
  • Arrange regular updates to the society’s website and social media accounts to increase engagement.
  • Draft press releases and work with members of the media to secure positive coverage of society’s efforts and campaigns.
  • Manage vendor and contractor relationship for work on associated communication and marketing needs.
  • Work with the senior management in developing and implementing a fund raising program identifying potential donors and supporters in order to meet the revenue goals agreed earlier.
  • Develop contacts with potential donors and engage them in promotional presentations and activities.
  • Develop and maintain fund raising material and execute targeted fund raising events and campaigns.
  • Assist in writing grant proposals and reports.
  • Design a comprehensive awareness program to reach the target beneficiaries using the most effective print and electronic channels.
  • Continuously monitor and report the effectiveness of the outreach program and alter the strategy, if required, based on results achieved against the targets and goals.
  • Other duties as assigned by COO and Senior management.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • A degree, preferably Masters, from a recognized University in Mass Communications, Journalism, Public Relations. MBA Marketing with the required background may also apply.
  • Working knowledge of CSR initiatives in Pakistan, specifically interventions support in Sindh under Rule of Law amid.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent in interpersonal skills
  • Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft and other software relating to Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Adobe, presentations, social media etc.
  • Knowledge of layout and design of print and web based promotional material.
  • Experience in the development sector for non profit fund raising and donor management.
  • 3-5 years of experience, working with Development projects and CSR funds for Advocacy in the Rule of Law space.
  • Experience of working with donor funded projects.
  • Ability with social media marketing and promotional strategies.
  • Ability to work under pressure, organize work assignment, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for social change.
