Purpose of the post

The ICRC’s public communication plays a key role in its mission to ensure respect for the life and dignity of people affected by natural or man-made disasters.

The Communication and Public Relations Department drives, support and supervises the ICRC’s efforts to connect with relevant audiences in variety of ways including through digital content and channels. The digital officer role, based in Islamabad, is responsible for developing and expanding ICRC Pakistan’s digital presence through relevant digital channels. This will ensure an integrated approach to public engagement in support of the ICRC’s objectives, issues and priorities.

Education and Experience required

  • Master’s degree in appropriate discipline with minimum of five years’ experience in a relevant field.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, as well as photo editing (video editing is a plus).
  • Excellence in English language with an ability to create content in Urdu when required.

Job Description:

Digital contents/activities/campaigns

  • Develop, implement and evaluate the digital strategy for the delegation in Pakistan.
  • Create, edit, repurpose and deliver a wide variety of engaging content for digital channels, targeted at range of key audiences including the general public.
  • Support the development of a narrative-driven approach to digital communications, prioritizing engagement over simply publishing, and working with internal stakeholders to assess content opportunities, provide content strategy recommendations, and evaluate the strategic value of proposed content.
  • Ensure the accurate, timely and effective delivery of digital content, optimized for search and audience engagement, partnering with concerned digital officers and audio-visual producers both at the Geneva HQ and other delegations in the region.
  • Provide strategy, ideas and support to shape and drive digital campaigns and activities (short and long term)
  • Train, guide and support colleagues in the delegation to manage and report on digital platforms. Be available as an ongoing resource for training and campaign evaluation.

Support to other public communication functions

  • Work closely with head of communications and public relations to develop an integrated and coherent approach to communications and activities across online and traditional channels, using media opportunities to drive engagement and digital content’s impact.
  • Support communications and public relations department in handling media relations.

  • S/he is proficient and enthusiastic about social media, and a user of multiple platforms either professionally or personally.
  • S/he has a good understanding and knowledge of political and social environment in Pakistan, international relations and current events.
  • S/he is flexible in terms of working hours, able to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
  • S/he is dedicated to the mission of the ICRC and the role of humanitarianism in digital conversations.
