Project Description:

The U.S.-Pakistan Partnership for Agricultural Market Development (AMD) activity in Pakistan is a USAID funded activity implemented by CNFA with the goal of supporting the development of Pakistan’s commercial agriculture, particularly through improving the ability of Pakistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors to meet both international and domestic demand and requirements in targeted product lines in citrus, mango, high value/off season vegetables and livestock. AMD envisions transforming the four targeted product lines into efficient, private sector led value chains that deliver competitive products to domestic and export markets. AMD’s targeted training, matching grants, and technical assistance will leverage private sector investment and encourage innovation. Together, these approaches will support upgrading, streamline supply chains, optimize profit margins, increase participation of women entrepreneurs, and ultimately make Pakistani mango, citrus, meat and HV/OSV more profitable and more competitive.

 

Location:       Lahore, with frequent travel to the project areas

Position Summary:

The National Marketing Specialist and Meat Value Addition Specialist will lead the value addition segment of the meat value chain, and design and implement interventions to create and strengthen national sales linkages within the mango, citrus, halal meat, and high-value off-season vegetable value chains to enable stake holders to take advantage of opportunities for income growth and employment.

 

Tasks and Deliverables:

The National Marketing Specialist/Meat Value Addition Specialist will work to improve buyer/seller relationships and formalize market transactions between producers and market intermediaries through strategic commercial partnerships and promote vertically integration within the AMD target value chains at national level.The specialist will be responsible to promote access to relevant market information for all value chain actors, lead the meat value addition component of the meat value chain including implementation of grant activities, identification, designing and implementation of activities related to technical assistance in the meat value addition component, and identify strategic opportunities for private sector investment. Assist AMD meat value addition grantees to conform to international protocols and facilitate access to new international market avenues, help to improve the capacity of the value added sector by enhancing knowledge and skills in new technologies and standard protocols. Responsibilities include capacity building of producer/exporter organizations, agribusiness, and other market actors, facilitating and increasing private sector investment, providing training and other business development services, and ensuring support services, Maintaining an up to date market database aimed at providing continuous market feedback to the producer/exporters groups by keeping track of market changes i.e. commodity price fluctuations, quality issues, key issues in the distribution chain, modes of payment, sources of finances and credit, dissemination of information concerning main buyers and sellers involved in the AMD target value chains, and support M&E component for data collection. Work with M&E and Communications to develop success stories within the sector.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pakistani national;
  • Master’s degree in Livestock/Agriculture/Business management;
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible marketing work experience in the meat sector.
  • At least 2 years of marketing work experience in the meat/ agriculture sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders including academia, private sector commercial processors, government, commercial farmers, and vendors both verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to complete tasks while maintaining quality of deliverables within deadlines;
  • Ability to compile and organize data into written reports in English
  • Fluency in English required; fluency in Urdu preferred.
  • Experience working with the meat sector in Pakistan shall be an added advantage.
