PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary purpose of this role is to support the Communications department to achieve objectives set out in the Communications and National strategies through developing, disseminating and managing information and resources for effective donor and public engagement; networking with key internal and external groups; strategically working with national and international media; identifying and mitigating media risks; contributing to internal communications; and launching and carrying out timely and effective communications responses to humanitarian emergencies.

Communications Officer will also lead external communications on a range of development and advocacy issues and will direct, facilitate and deliver content, using platforms and channels to reach diverse audiences.

Major Activities

PUBLIC - COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS

  • Ensure outcome-focused quality production of visual and written content for defined donor segments and audiences reflecting programme objectives and evidence of impact.
  • Contribute to quality and programme aligned website / online platforms updates posted regularly; find innovative methods to attract more visitors to online channels.
  • Host/support the Partnership resource gathering visits/ Media (acknowledged via Share).
  • Provide Communications support during the organisation of public events initiated by AIPs and programmes.
  •  Understand the concept of the C4D for Community Voice and Casual Content. Identify,an and upload produced casual content to the Casual Media Library. Facilitate and train children/ youth/ community people based on programmatic needs.
  •  Be trained on emergency communications. Ensure effective and rapid provision of disaster response content for effective internal communications and marketing appeals that mobilise support during emergencies.

REPUTATION & INFLUENCE:

  • Contribute to media outreach plan results in increased positive coverage of WV’s work in local and national media outlets.
  • Staff is trained and refreshed annually as spokesperson per the Programme office; archive and digitize media interactions from WV spokespersons.
  • Ensure WV staff is oriented on media relations policy and protocols.
  • Local and national campaigns have an integrated media plan that secures positive press coverage and improves visibility of key issues.
  • Ensure social media content and engagement plan results in increased social community linked to WV, endorsing WV, and active in child well-being issues based discussion on WV-managed digital platforms.
  • Developed and maintained professional contacts and relationships with key print, radio and TV  media, and liaise upon necessity.
  • Ensure the external communication resources use correct WV identity.
  • Have an input in developing advocacy messages and contribute to planning advocacy activities.
  • Provide Communications support reflected in applicable regional and global advocacy campaigns.

STAFF ENGAGEMENT:

  • Contribute to internal communications plan development.
  • Ensure increase in access and readership of internal communications channels. 
  • Feature national programming initiatives in regional and global communication platforms.
  • Ensure community voice content is used in internal communications platforms.

INFORMATION, EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION (IEC) AND PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS:

  • Coordinate the design and production of WVP community awareness/education materials (including brochures, posters, signage, etc.) from conception to printing. Advise on materials from conception stage (from programme design onwards). Work with appropriate third parties (designers, illustrators, production houses) to outsource this work when necessary. Ensures the preparation of visual tools (for the communities/children) such as pamphlet, poster, banner, cartoons, animations, audio and video productions for awareness raising for AIP projects through strong coordination with National Office Communications department

GENERAL

  • Perform other duties as directed by the Area Development Manager and Communications Manager.
  • Contribute relevant communications resources and updates to WVP and WVI partnership internal communications (i.e. Connections) as directed by management.
  • Provide weekly reports and attend team meetings.
  • Help with the preparation of annual reports and other communication materials.
  • Help ensure the security and maintenance of Communications resources and equipment by charging, servicing and securely storing equipment.
  • Research and share best practices in Communications. (humanitarian, journalism)
  • Keep record of all key functions of Communications through track sheets.

CAPACITY BUILDING

  • Together with the Communications Manager discuss and develop capacity building annual plan to be reflected in the performance agreement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Degree in social sciences preferably journalism, communications and / or public relations
  • Experience in communications with international NGOs.
  • At least 2 years of experience in journalism / communications / media.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills in English, Urdu and the local language.
  • Story writing, photography and videography skills.
  • Fluency in computer programmes. (Word, Power Point, Adobe Suite)
  • Solid knowledge in traditional media relations and use of social media channels.
  • Knowledge of development work, understanding of reasons of poverty.
  • Video editing skills.
  • Willingness to work long hours when required.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and able to work under pressure.
  • Should deal with information flow that needs fast processing.
  • Should be aware about the major trends and processes within World Vision Pakistan and World Vision International.
  • Should be ready for internal and external travels for the minimum 30% of working time.
