General Functions

The Grants Writer will be part of the Grants Unit and will be responsible for preparation and writing of all new grants and project proposals. The grants writer will be in charge of drafting the comprehensive weekly report and all other grant related reports and will also be reviewing and editing grant budgets. The Grants Writer will work under the overall supervision of the Program Manager and will report directly to the Grants Unit Manager.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The incumbent’s duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Development of grant proposals including gathering information from the respective field offices, complying with donor protocols, and drafting the proposal , often on short deadlines. Editing project conception documents for review by the donor
  • Coordinating with Operations, Logistics, Technical (Engineering) and M&E unit to obtain necessary information required for grant writing purposes.
  • Compiling the comprehensive report on a weekly basis as well as the quarterly report, and others as necessary.
  • Reviewing grant budgets for infrastructure projects.
  • Editing budgets for all soft activities including socio-cultural and training projects, ensuring minimal discrepancy between grant design and the budget
  • Compiling ‘success stories’ reflecting program impact.
  • Extension of support to the M&E team including reviewing Final Evaluation Reports and sending gants for closure.
  • Maintaining constant liaison with program staff, especially the operations unit to remain updated on the operational direction of the program and how that contributes or affects the grant development process.
  • Ensuring up-to-date and accurate information pertaining to regional background and overview for grants.
  • Organizing and maintaining program records and documentation on file for tracking and reporting.
  • Submission of grants for clearance, coordinating with all units to address donor queries, maintenance of grant projectization cost tracking sheet and any other assigned duty. 

Qualification, Competencies and Experience   

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or equivalent. Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences will be preferred.
  • Excellent writing skills required.
  • Prior knowledge of FATA areas, its governance structure and geography
  • Must possess the capacity to understand and analyze the basics of development in conflict zones
  • Must be proficient in the use of MS Word and Excel. Prior experience in budgeting will be an asset.
  • Must have knowledge of or experience in donor liaison, and donor reporting. The candidate familiar with major funding agencies will be given preference.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and deliver on time
  • Strong ability to manage tasks simultaneously, delegate as required, and prioritize in the view of respective deadlines
  • Grants Writer must have a minimum of two years’ experience of working in with a reputable organization in international development.

 Languages 

  • Fluency in English and Urdu is required. Knowledge of Pushto is an asset.
