Introduction

An international non-governmental organisation is looking for the services of a Finance Assistant for its Peshawar Office. The position will be on fixed term contract basis with the possibility of extension in future depending on needs and funding.

Position’s Overall Objectives

The Finance Assistant, supervised by the Finance Officer, is expected to assist in implementing financial procedures in compliance with HQ and donors’ regulations and support the Finance Officer in maintaining proper financial record and compliance.

Responsibilities and Tasks

To achieve the overall and specific position’s objectives the Finance Assistant will perform the following tasks and undertake the following responsibilities:

  1. Maintain petty cash including cash withdrawal and make cash payments to admin staff for petty expenses;
  2. Check petty cash vouchers, receipts, and cash books;
  3. Assist in audit requirements;
  4. Preparation of vouchers for cash and bank transactions as per laid down rules and procedures;
  5. Preparation of cheques for payments to vendors and staff members;
  6. Take signatures from competent authorities on vouchers for payments and ensure that vouchers are properly authorized as per laid down rules;
  7. Assisting in allocation of budget codes and donor codes to transactions as per guidance from Finance Officer;
  8. Data entry in cashbooks in an accurate and timely manner;
  9. Organizing cash counts randomly & at the end of each month and update cash forms in cashbooks;
  10. Assist in preparation of bank reconciliation statement on a monthly basis;
  11. Maintain tax record for submission to Tax consultant/ department;
  12. Scan all monthly vouchers and related finance documents for submission to HQ;
  13. Maintain proper filing system and record keeping;
  14. Issue and adjust advances to staff members ensuring proper authorization and record;
  15. Any other relevant duties as directed by the supervisor

The Personal Specifications are:

Qualification:

Master level or equivalent degree in Finance (e.g M.Com, MS / MBA Finance)

Bachelor of Commerce degree holders along with 2 year relevant experience are also eligible to apply.

Experience:

Minimum 2 year experience in the field of accountancy / finance with and INGO at Assistant level or above.

For Bachelor degree holders the Minimum experience is 4 years including 2 years relevant experience with INGO at Assistant level or above.

Technical Skills:

Excellent knowledge of basic accountancy principles and practices.

Proficient user of MS Office applications especially MS Excel.

Knowledge of UN / Donor procedures and practices is added advantage

Experience of assistance in audit is a added value

Language Skills:

Linguistic skills in URDU, English are mandatory.

Regional languages especially Pushto is desirable.
