Position Summary:

The Communications Assistant will support the Program in creating design solutions that have a high visual impact for both offline and online media. S/he will develop creative ideas and concepts, choosing the appropriate media and style that effectively communicate the aims and objectives of FATA ESP to a wide range of audiences. The work demands creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of industry software, and a professional approach to time, costs, and adherence to deadlines.

 

Reporting & Supervision:

The Communications Assistant reports to the Director of Media and Communications. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with the Communications and Program teams, and other colleagues as/when necessary, to discuss the business objectives and requirements of the job;
  • Interpret the program needs and develop a concept to suit specific purposes;
  • Develop design themes by gathering information and data through research;
  • Think creatively to produce new ideas and concepts;
  • Coordinate with program teams in the translation of copywriting into Urdu and/or Pashto;
  • Contribute ideas and design artwork to the overall brief;
  • Demonstrate illustrative skills with rough sketches;
  • Work on layouts and artwork pages ready for print;
  • Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed in a quality-oriented and timely manner;
  • Complete projects by coordinating with outside agencies, art services, printers, etc.;
  • Supervise and monitor all printing jobs;
  • Format key documents such as reports, briefs and one-pagers;
  • Develop in-house publications such as success story and testimonial booklets;
  • Assist the Program Coordinator in the development of bi-weekly reports;
  • Coordinate with DCOP, or designee, to prepare quarterly and annual reports;
  • Other job related tasks, of a reasonable nature, assigned by the supervisor or designee that are deemed appropriate and necessary for meeting program objectives.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree preferably in English Literature, Mass Communication, Journalism, or related field.
  • Professional degree/diploma in Graphic Designing.  
  • Minimum two years of experience preferably in a well-reputed advertising agency in Pakistan, with particular focus on working for development programs, preferably USAID-funded.
  • English language fluency (oral and written) is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of InDesign, InPage, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required.
  • Sound practical knowledge of off-set and on-set printing.
  • Problem-solving skills, with an ability to prioritize work is necessary.
  • Effective stress and time management skills are highly preferred.
  • Effective presentation skills, including through use of multi-media, highly preferred.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 20-25 pounds.
