Job Description:

Under the overall supervision of the Humanitarian Operations Manager and the direct supervision of the Humanitarian Communications (HComms) Coordinator, the Deputy Provincial Coordinator will work as part of the Humanitarian Communications project in line with the scope and focus of defined objectives. In particular, s/he will:

  1. Assist the Provincial Coordinator in coordinating with concerned provincial government departments, UN clusters, national and international organizations implementing humanitarian communication activities
  2. Identify innovative ways to successfully communicate with local populations in the humanitarian context, and identify opportunities and potential outreach in the district.
  3. Assist the Provincial Coordinator in collecting timely information regarding available humanitarian services for affected populations – how, when, where to access resources; planned and implemented humanitarian activities, information regarding available support on restoration of facilities/infrastructure and how affected population benefit from the government and humanitarian community’s humanitarian and recovery activities.
  4. Provide the requisite support to the district/provincial administration and humanitarian agencies in informing communities about available and accessible humanitarian services.
  5. Establish the setup of informal humanitarian communication activities in affected areas vis-a-vis the social norms, outreach, ease of implementation and sensitivities of messages being disseminated
  6. Assist the Provincial Coordinator in providing feedback regarding the prevailing social conditions and community mind set pertaining to security situation, humanitarian activities and development plans.
  7. Highlight any urgent area of intervention based on feedback from the community members especially community leaders.
  8. Monitor field staff, develop field plans and leads all field related activities.
  9. Attend relevant cluster meetings and update the HComms Coordinator regarding all field related tasks/activities and meetings.
  10. Assist the Provincial Coordinator in managing administrative formalities for Field Teams
  11. Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor.

Relevant Experience:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Social Sciences, Law or equivalent with relevant training and experiences; minimum 3 years’ of relevant experience working with humanitarian organizations in the region.

Skills: Well versed with Social Mobilization techniques and strategies; relevant field experience of working in KP and especially FATA; excellent writing skills. The applicant should be fluent in English, Urdu and Pashto. The candidate should have strong initiative to take lead in tasks and problem-solving; good communication, negotiation and reporting skills in English.  The candidate should have the drive for results and effective management and analytical skills.  Must have the ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from varied cultures and professional backgrounds and in stressful conditions; should be proficient in MS office. The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision; he/she hould have willingness to travel regularly to the field for monitoring and evaluation trips.
