Introduction

DRC is an international non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions for refugees and internally displaced people in more than 30 countries world-wide.

DRC established an operation in Pakistan in December 2010 in order to contribute to the flood recovery response, as well as part of a regional program addressing Afghan displacement in close coordination with its programmes in Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan. The DRC office in Pakistan is established in Peshawar with approximately 80 national and international staff.

DRC has been granted an NOC by the PDMA to assist DPs of NWA (Displaced persons of North Waziristan) in six Union Councils of Bannu. A temporary field office in Bannu will be opened for this operation, and DRC wishes to give the opportunity for candidates familiar with local customs and conditions to apply for positions as mentioned above.

 Programme components in Bannu will be in the sectors of WASH, Shelter and NFIs.

 DRC has a long-term view to its programming in Pakistan and expects to grow significantly in a relatively short period. The current DRC projects are funded by international recognised donors.

 

Position’s Overall Objective

 To implement WASH (safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene) components of DRC’s community led programme and ensure hygiene promotion activities meet SPHERE standards, millennium development goals and recognised best practice adopting a participatory community based approach.

 

Responsibilities and Tasks

 

  • Develop hygiene promotion and education materials and resources
  • Conduct community environmental and hygiene assessments, adopting participatory tools and methods.
  •  Work within the agreed work plan and ensure timely attention to priority tasks
  • Initiate sessions to DP families and host community, teachers and children on significance of preventive health & hygiene practices
  • Ensure WASH programmes meet SPHERE standards and established best practice.
  • Arrange field visits regularly to observe WASH practices
  • Work with community to establish/strengthen WASH clubs as part of community led preventive health and hygiene promotion activities
  • Ensure activities are participatory through engaging community including students, teachers and SHURA regarding development of awareness raising and community education materials and strategies
  • Contribute to the development of the emergency prevention and response strategies
  • Initiate written and verbal progress reports within the team and across sector
  • Undertake any other tasks assigned by line manager.
