Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the overall supervision of National Project Coordinator, the Biodiversity Specialist will be responsible for providing the biodiversity related backstopping support in the implementation of the project. Specific responsibilities of the incumbent shall follow:-

  • Develop and refine protocols based on practica experience for sustainable use of key species of MEPs and other NTFP taking into consideration their bioloy, physiology, and ecology;
  • Assess the status of key species in target areas and propose sound ecological interventions for enrichment of  habitats, if necessary.
  • Develop training materials and tools for sustaible use of key MEPs and supervise the biodiversity related capacity building programs for managers and valley activists  across all conservancies;
  • Develop ToT and other follow up mentoring in conservancies after training;
  • Develop and support implementation of  a participatory biodiversity monitoring system and prepare brochures, mannuals. document lessons learnt, and prepare reports as necessay.
  • Support CBEs with quality controls (handling, storage, packaging, labelling, etc.)
  • Advise the Project Manager on all matters related to biodiversity conservation and sustainabel use;
  • Organize a training cum orientation workshop for the project staff and implementing partners to ensure a shared understanding of the project objective and strategy in the context of biodiversity;
  • Review the inception plan, and annual work plans to ensure the relevance of the  proposed interventions  to the project outcomes in the context of biodiversity;
  • Review TORs of national and international consultants, and vendors;
  • Conribute to the monthly, qurterly and annual report, mnitoring reports, proposals developed under the proejct o
  • Guide and review the reports of national consultants and vendors to ensure conformity of their work to the needs of the project;
  • Any other task assigned from time to time

 

Qualifications and Experience:-

The incumbent should have Master degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, MBA, Development studies or other relevant academic discipline from a recognized institution by HEC and relevant working experience of at least ten (10) years. Knowledge and experience of the respective work area and hands-on experience in the mountain areas of northern Pakistan would be preferred.
