Job Title: Media & Communication Officer

Job Descriptions:

1.      Managing the communication component of the project related advocacy campaign at local level.

2.      Preparing press releases, managing linkages with media persons, organizing effective theatre performances, preparing awareness resources material for rights holders, producing documentaries, etc.

3.      Promoting visibility of the project-related work/advocacy campaign of the brick kiln workers both in the mass (newspapers, radio and TV channels) and social (theatre, internet, website and blogs) media

4.      Documenting & keeping record of the project events/campaigns & activities for both the internal and external environment on regular basis by maintaining a clipping section.

5.      Supporting communications coordinator in raising awareness of the project activities and key messages with core target audiences by Establishing, maintaining and strengthening strong and pro active relations with the media (TV, radio and newspaper)

6.      Promoting organization’s visibility and brand by producing, composing, editing, designing quality promotional/information material such as newsletters, leaflets, brag sheets, banners and brochures in coordination with the project Coordinator,

7.      Developing a monthly update of the project activities by gathering information from communities

8.      Gathering & compiling relevant information for the Security updates by gathering weekly security updates from communities.

9.      Supporting relation building and dissemination of material with media people by maintaining and keeping a media, NGOs and government institution list updated.

10. Responding to the queries received through official email (communications) by forwarding it to the concern person or sending relevant information.

11. To prepare various reports, news releases, documents and other materials as developed for publication and circulation; this may include layout and design.

12. Maintain the filing section and keep record of communication-related documents.

13. Coordinate with the project coordinator for the media coverage of project events and activities.

14.  Identify the need for and draft reactive press lines / key messages as required.

15. Knowledge of media and communication for development

16. Knowledge of developing communication strategy for an advocacy campaign

17. Knowledge of networking with journalists and media

18. Knowledge of various policies and procedure of ActionAid.

19. Knowledge of various programmes and policies of ActionAid.

20. Knowledge of development work at the field level and how it benefits groups which are marginalized, poor and vulnerable.

21. Knowledge of development issues, policies as well as social programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation.

22. Knowledge of and commitment to humanitarian principles and minimum standards for disaster response, the NGO/Red Cross Code of Conduct, the People in Aid Code of Conduct, Action Aid’s human security in emergencies and conflict strategy and approach, and security and policy procedures
