Creative International seeks a qualified Pre Service Teachers Education Specialist for a USAID-funded education project in Pakistan.

PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

 

Pakistan Reading Project will improve the quality of reading in public and private schools across all of Pakistan; supporting at least 2.5 million additional primary school students to read at all level commensurate with standards at their grade level by the three mutually reinforcing components of teacher education and professional development, systems reform and civil society engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Job Summary:

The Pre-service Teacher Education Specialist will support the adaption of ADE and B.Ed (Hons.) programs by new teacher training institutes (TTIs) in the country and support the regional teams to plan and implement professional development activities to strengthen the faculty capacity. S/he will work in close coordination with Reading Advisor and Policy component.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the adaption of ADE and B.Ed (Hons.) programs by new teacher training institutes (TTIs) in the country
  • Support the regional teams to plan and implement professional development activities to  strengthen the faculty capacity in delivering  the ADE and B.Ed (Hons.) programs effectively
  • Support TTIs to review, develop and implement university strategic plans and college improvement plans
  • Work with reading adviser to implement three levels curricula for reading instruction: Reading Basics, Reading Instruction Certification (RIC), and Reading Specialization;
  • Support TTIs to develop and integrate reading instruction curricula and assessment into degree programs
  • Work in coordination with policy component to develop teacher certification and licensing program in the country
  • Assist TTIs to obtain accreditation of their teacher education programs
  • Support efforts of TTIs offering the new degree programs to provide students with opportunities for supervised student teacher practicum in primary schools with emphasis on teaching reading. Work with HEC, Bureaus of Curriculum (BoCs), and university staff to enhance the practicum curriculum modules;
  • Support English language adviser to improve English language program in TTIs
  • Provide opportunities to TTI faculty members  for inter/ intra-provincial study tours
  • Support universities in planning and overseeing infrastructure upgrade
  • Work in close collaboration with open university and distance learning institutes in the country to offer ADE and B.Ed (Hons.) programs through correspondence and on-line modes
  • Coordinate with HEC, BoCs, TTIs and local stakeholders regarding ADE/B.Ed. related issues yet to be resolved, opportunities not yet realized, etc;

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

  • Minimum of Master degree in Education or relevant discipline.

 

Work Experiences:

  • (10) ten years of experience in the education sector with deep understanding about the pre-service teacher education system in the country
  • Excellent knowledge about ADE and B.Ed (Hons.) programs
  • Knowledge about best practices in pre-service teacher education at regional and international level
  • Experience of working with TTIs

Demonstrated Skills:

  • Ability to plan and monitor a large scale program
  • Experience working in the international community;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Must possess leadership abilities and proven team/interpersonal skills.
