Introduction of Project

The Project “Support Social Protection and Decent Work for Brick Kiln Workers and Bonded Laborers in Pakistan”  is funded by European Commission/Actionaid. The Project is being implemented in Districts Lahore and Pakpattan by BLLF.
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to poverty reduction and social inclusion of informal workers and bonded labourers. The specific objectives are to ensure that 'brick kiln workers have better access to social protection services and more productive employment. Main activities are awareness-raising on the rights, social protection and decent employment;  capacity building, advocacy and campaigning; vocational and technical skills training: Advocacy on legal and policy framework; Dialogue with policy makers and employers, Alliance building/networking at district and national level on the rights of labourers working in brick kiln industry. Research into the social protection rights and dissemination of good practices, Providing healthcare, ,legal support to brick kiln workers and educational support to children working on brick kilns

I. Job Summary:

Project Coordinator will be responsible to coordinate, support the implementation, execution, and completion of specific projects. Contributing to the cause of  Project by providing expertise in overseeing the coordination of project and ensuring timely reporting to donor.

II.Major areas of responsibility

  • overall implementation of the project,
  • interfacing and interacting with  related departments./units;
  • the smooth operation of the Project by the partners at the local and national level;
  • seeking guidance and management support from the Programme Manager;
  • actively engaging in the preparation and development of project ideas and proposals;
  • putting a strong quality-assurance process in place to ensure the project is on the right track;  
  • building liaison, coordinating and corresponding with institutional donors, implementing partners, units and departments within AAPk;
  • supporting and guiding partners and other team members in collating information and preparing analytical reports in line with donor requirements;
  • the quality delivery of all intermediate and final outputs of the project and submit narrative and financial reports as per the donor's specified formats & schedule;
  • providing support in preparing the work plans & budgets;
  • organize and conduct start training programs;
  • Extensively' traveling and spending  time in the field as and when required and report regularly on the progress of the projects.
  • Developing concept notes for research studies; coordinating with researcher/consultant; and managing research studies.

III.Mandatory qualification:

  • Masters Degree in Social Sciences/ Management/ Development Studies
  • 3 to 5 Years Relevant Experience

III.a Knowledge

  • Conceptual understanding of Social Protection and Labor Rights
  • Knowledge of existing national policy and institutional framework of social protection
  • Knowledge of methods in Social Research
  • Knowledge of Planning and budgeting
  • Knowledge of various policies and procedure of ActionAid.
  • Knowledge of various programmes and policies of ActionAid.
  • Knowledge of development work at the field level and how it benefits groups which are marginalized, poor and vulnerable.
  • Knowledge of development issues, policies as well as social programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to humanitarian principles and minimum standards for disaster response, the NGO/Red Cross Code of Conduct, the People in Aid Code of Conduct, ActionAid’s human security in emergencies and conflict strategy and approach, and security and policy procedures

III.b    Skills

  • Ability to articulate issues; design campaigning; and make policy analysis
  • Ability to write concept notes for and overall management research studies
  • Ability to produce and manage relevant media contents/products  (press releases, articles, interactive theatre and video documentaries)
  • Ability to develop effective communication strategy for the successful implementation of the project and carrying out advocacy camapign  
  • Ability to work under pressure and against tight deadlines.
  • Effective inter-personal and communication skills.
  • The ability to present concise reports, sometimes at short notice, reflecting the problems and possible solutions for particular situations.
  • Ability to work through networking and with partnership
