Relevant Experience:
Consultant must have a Bachelors degree in agronomy, agricultural economics, statistics and related subjects with no less than 3 years experience in carrying out surveys and benchmarking exercises, preferably in agricultural or livestock markets. Applicants who are either locals of Balochistan will be given preference. Good understanding of Brahui, Balochi and Pushto is mandatory.
Job Description:
The objective of this consultancy is to perform a rapid market appraisal of livestock markets in Balochistan province and the value chain associated with these products. The Consultant(s) shall use his/her education, experience, knowledge of international best practices to accomplish the following:
- Study the existing livestock markets of the province and quantify existing infrastructure, business processes, institutional arrangements, human resource, financial capacity and other indicators found therein
- Determine the economic losses caused in the livestock marketing sector due to lack of infrastructure, services and facilities
- Identify the upstream and downstream market channels for livestock markets operating in five selected districts of Baluchistan
- Identify various stake holders in the livestock sector and their position/influence in the market chain
- Identify existing deficiencies and distortions in current practices and determine whether they are conducive to enabling the fair, efficient, and growth-oriented functioning of livestock markets
- Identify the sources and amount of revenue generated by livestock markets in Balochistan over the past five years and determine their utilization and/or investment in the marketplace
- Identify the needs and concerns of suppliers and buyers based on their perceptions and enlist their recommendations for the improvement of livestock markets
- Identify down-stream FIRMS Project Actions, if any, (using the format in Annex B hereto) that will strengthen/support the livestock markets system of the province
