Hours and environment
It is an office-based job which usually requires you to work from 9am - 5pm.
Full-time and part-time opportunities and even some flexible working shifts are quite common these days.
Skills and interests
Accuracy is the name of the game when it comes to the skills needed to be a data entry clerk. The information you are working with is going to be used to complete a project, which should be completed in time. That’s why your fast typing speed will be required and mistakes should be as minute as possible while typing.
Requirements are:
- Good typing speed.
- Good understanding of computers.
- Should have a positive attitude to learn and guide others.
- Ability to work independently.
- Should have attitude to train others through skype, youtube videos etc.
- Computer literacy
- An ability to work to deadlines
- An ability to work fast (but without mistakes)
- Good attention to detail
Entry
There are no set entry requirements but some qualifications will be helpful if you want to get ahead. You'll probably be asked by employers whether you know how to work on Skype, you tube etc. you should also know how to use internet and also how to convey to other people, so that once you have learned you know how to train the next person.
Training
Most of your training will be on the job, teaching you how to use the software that you will be using.
Opportunities
As your experience grows you may be able to move into a more supervisory role, overseeing a team of clerks and training new recruits. A move into IT may also be possible if you've been on some of the training courses in computers especially typing.

· Preferably done a course in typing and knows how to work on internet.
